Sitting in my chair
looking out the window
a shaft of sunlight filtering in
Illuminating my face
A cloud floats by and blocks again
I turn my brightness
back to boredom
working hard, but as if
for nothing
more clouds gather
raindrops fall and dot the ground
filling up the uneven spaces
the earth is whole again
looking at a puddle
a face looms within
I turn around
but there is no one behind me
only myself
In the dark of the night
I scream to know, to hear, to be comforted
but no one is there
to hear my cry
only myself
My small happiness
at forgotten sunshine, locked away in
a box of rainbows
is lost
when I realize
no one is there to share it with me
only myself
looking back to the puddle
another face stares back
I realize
the one I have missed
is company with others
now I am reduced to Misery
Company is good
Friendship is better
Love is the best
but Loneliness
is man's own torture
so as I wait for you
in my chair
looking at puddles
everywhere

My Friend in All Seasons
Blue skies
running through a field
flopping down
staring at the clouds
laughing, chasing
each other across the grass
the smell of clover
in my head
sun shining
warming my skin
I turn around
there you are
laughing too
Orange trees
with red and yellow
throwing leaves up
in the air
brisk wind
a scarf around my shoulders
the smell of dirt
in my head
crunching through
the fallen foliage
I turn around
there you are
laughing too
Cold rain
dotting the ground
grey skies
skipping between droplets
a stronger breeze
blowing leaves away
sitting, staring
out the window
warm inside
still happy
rain doesn't bring
any gloominess
only the smell
of fresh wet ground
I turn around
there you are
laughing too
Buds on trees
wet green plant life
verdant on sepia
the purple flowers
on bare branches
cherry blossoms
float to the ground
we climb the trees
talking of life
found a robins' nest
in the tree
three blue eggs
lying speckled
the Earth around us
sprouting up
I turn around
there you are
laughing too
My friend in all seasons
don't leave me
I'll show you everything
the cycle again.
